DID YOU KNOW?
PAY EQUITY IN COMPANIES THAT DO NOT EMPLOY ANY MEN
Many people think that if a company does not employ any men, there is not pay equity exercise to be conducted; they are wrong.
You must still conduct a pay equity exercise and have two options:
OPTION A, as determined by the Pay Equity Act, provides companies with:
- Two typical male job classes (Foreman and maintenance worker) that will act as comparators;
- A method to determine the hourly rate of remuneration that should be paid for each of these comparators;
- Indicators that allow employers to pursue their pay equity process within the guidelines set forth by the Act.
OPTION B, use of external male comparators:
- This option allows employers to use two external male comparators from a company that is similar to theirs, in order to conduct their pay equity exercice. Specific modalities have been established for this process, and employers who chose this option must comply with them. This process is somewhat more complex since the comparators must be submitted to the Commission de l'Équité salariale for approuval.
